After searching and searching, thinking and thinking, comparing and contrasting, calculating and saving, I finally pulled the trigger on my first new bike since my "new to me" hand-me-down Gary Fisher Rig that I also still really, really like. This will be my <strike>third</strike> fifth (I forgot about my 2 road bikes, both Trek's) ever brand new bike. Bike #1 was a Trek Mountaintrack that I got for my high school graduation (1998) from Marinette Cycle Center. Bike #2 was my Trek Cruiser Classic that I still have and ride quite a bit from The Sports Rack in Marquette. This is a 2011 Rocky Mountain Metropolis YVR. A crazy good deal was found earlier today and during lunch I bought it! This is the first bike that I haven't bought in a shop.

I found this website of a graphic designer that may have designed the color block on the frame. http://www.sher11.com/lisasher/2010/metropolis-lineup/

From what I could see in the photos on bikes.com the graphic looks more blue than the graphic design webpage. We'll see when it gets here!
Haleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15558498293887540936noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-726286528685093111.post-19659634415308812652011-03-02T14:04:00.003-05:002011-03-02T14:05:49.337-05:00After the Banshee...After he sold the Banshee Paradox, he bought a Singular Swift (rigid, steel, 29er). It looked a lot like this: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_s1O3owT0eC4/TESlMWPNleI/AAAAAAAACaQ/xYO4EZObGIw/s1600/July+002.jpg

but had the Singular rigid fork that matched the frame.Haleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15558498293887540936noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-726286528685093111.post-67667348850719772842011-01-31T13:24:00.000-05:002011-01-31T13:24:16.923-05:002011 Arrowhead 135

The race is happening NOW! On our walk to work (7:40EST) we thought about the biker, skiers, and runners who were getting ready for their 7:00CST departure from International Falls, MN. They said it was -9 this morning at the race start. I'm not sure what the temperature was in Marquette, but it felt cold.
Not the valve, but around the top.

He removed the top with the crank puller and brought it up...saying "I think I can fix this." After explaining how the mechanism works with a rubber gasket at the top of the screwed-on cap I suggested plumbers tape for a fit that was more snug.

Verdict = no air or oil leaking yet.
Aside from some normal positioning adjustments he seems to like this bike. He's noticing the shorter fork length compared to the Singular. To accommodate this a riser bar may be swapped. He's saying numbers like 490 --perhaps the length of the fork?

Other components include his standard, trusty Bontrager wheels, straight seatpost, and Ergon grips. He has messed around with the gear ratio depending on the ride he's doing that particular week.

Haleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15558498293887540936noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-726286528685093111.post-49932583754396456052010-08-31T21:47:00.002-04:002010-08-31T21:49:39.958-04:00Epic PhotosI had a picture after all.
Specialized Epic Comp 2010.Haleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15558498293887540936noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-726286528685093111.post-85918929821212112162010-08-25T07:59:00.003-04:002010-08-25T08:06:46.733-04:00Epic Out, El Mariachi InSpending too much time messing with it in the basement, thinking about it when he was riding, and wanting a hardtail bike again, the Epic has been sold.

I don't even know if I have kept the Epic photos on my computer.

He is now in posession of a Salsa El Mariachi. Here's a link to an article by Matt James about the Salsa 29er:
http://www.examiner.com/cycling-gear-in-national/salsa-cycles-brings-steel-back-to-the-forefront-with-new-el-mariachi

Quick and dirty:
Steel, rigid, 29er, blue. The fork length is shorter than the Singular Swift fork. He's noticing that difference. One thing that he seems to like is the rear dropout and the ability to adjust that area. He's using Bontrager wheels because they never give him problems.Haleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15558498293887540936noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-726286528685093111.post-29311494931529668352010-08-05T13:08:00.002-04:002010-08-05T13:10:35.726-04:00Specialized Epic Comp 29Purchased locally, the Epic does what he wants...so far.

Here's a webpage that has a nice picture gallery:
http://www.artscyclery.com/descpage-SP0EPC9.htmlHaleyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15558498293887540936noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-726286528685093111.post-56670716049274107062010-07-30T09:04:00.004-04:002010-08-01T09:47:40.529-04:00Researching Full Suspension Bicycles
Considerations:

-ride to the trail by road without being totally inefficient (ie: not a 6-inch travel bike)

-gears

-29er

-decent components

-not upgrading parts

-not rigid

He says:

"A do-it-all-reasonably-well-and still pedal fast bike.
