His Cool New Bike

We've liked the Trek Sawyer bike ever since the Gary Fisher Collection was announced: http://marriedtoabiker.blogspot.com/2010/06/step-child-was-adopted.html

MY cool new bike

After searching and searching, thinking and thinking, comparing and contrasting, calculating and saving, I finally pulled the trigger on my first new bike since my "new to me" hand-me-down Gary Fisher Rig that I also still really, really like.  This will be my third fifth (I forgot about my 2 road bikes, both Trek's) ever brand new bike.  Bike #1 was a Trek Mountaintrack that I got for my high school graduation (1998) from Marinette Cycle Center.  Bike #2 was my Trek Cruiser Classic that I still have and ride quite a bit from The Sports Rack in Marquette.  This is a 2011 Rocky Mountain Metropolis YVR.  A crazy good deal was found earlier today and during lunch I bought it!  This is the first bike that I haven't bought in a shop.

I found this website of a graphic designer that may have designed the color block on the frame.  http://www.sher11.com/lisasher/2010/metropolis-lineup/

From what I could see in the photos on bikes.com the graphic looks more blue than the graphic design webpage.  We'll see when it gets here!

After the Banshee...

After he sold the Banshee Paradox, he bought a Singular Swift (rigid, steel, 29er).  It looked a lot like this: https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgO9Q8BFAO25btJyTkei349aBCtr1nhxOY58D6bU8_xwHzZeStLJxNxWX-wOOAzCFFEzXVIGCYAChX5TKTXAK4yKMeHf8xrCGvRhqGYfiAsabkOD1Ov9fRsUfJRCjkqGIfQhEW209bVsys/s1600/July+002.jpg

but had the Singular rigid fork that matched the frame.

2011 Arrowhead 135

The race is happening NOW!  On our walk to work (7:40EST) we thought about the biker, skiers, and runners who were getting ready for their 7:00CST departure from International Falls, MN.  They said it was -9 this morning at the race start.  I'm not sure what the temperature was in Marquette, but it felt cold.

Here are the live updates:

We're watching for #18 Danny Hill.

Before work I tried to find some webcams located in Northern Minnesota:

http://www.lakevermilion.com/EagleEye/index.html - Lake Vermilion (closer to the finish)

Fixing a Coil Fork that is Leaking Oil/Air

Where is it leaking?  Not the valve, but around the top.

He removed the top with the crank puller and brought it up...saying "I think I can fix this."  After explaining how the mechanism works with a rubber gasket at the top of the screwed-on cap I suggested plumbers tape for a fit that was more snug.

Verdict = no air or oil leaking yet.

Perhaps photos will follow after a few rides.

Ride the Divide

Whew! This morning, after sleeping in, we watched Ride the Divide. Inspiring to say the least. I like to see what they eat. Cashew granola bars, Emergen-C, olives, pork sandwiches, fruit, nuts, pizza.

We're going for a ride tonight...a night ride with the lights on, with friends. No snow yet, but in the next month or so I think it'll be here.
Watch it here while it lasts:
